Mama Rabbit, the tequila and mezcal bar at Park MGM in Las Vegas, closed permanently on September 14, 2026, after seven years, MGM Resorts International confirmed on September 10.
The 4,400 square foot lounge, tucked off the casino floor near Best Friend, had become one of the Strip's more specific bets on agave spirits: a room built around a wall of bottles rather than a nightclub sound system. MGM Resorts said a new concept will take the space over during the first half of 2027, with further details to come, and gave no reason for the shutdown.
What Mama Rabbit actually was
The bar opened in August 2019 as a joint project between MGM Resorts International, hospitality group Sydell Group, and restaurateur Bricia Lopez, according to a PR Newswire release cited by Hoodline. At debut it carried more than 500 labels of tequila and mezcal, which VinePair described at the time as the largest agave spirits selection in the United States. The bottles were curated by Lopez and displayed on a bottle wall reported at 40 feet high, alongside 400 black clay rabbit sculptures made in Oaxaca and a mural by Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel depicting Mayahuel, the Aztec goddess of agave and fertility from whom the bar took its name.
Lopez brought her own credentials to the project. She is a co-owner of Guelaguetza, the Oaxacan restaurant her family opened in Los Angeles's Koreatown in 1994, which received a James Beard Foundation America's Classics Award in 2015. She was also named the official Mezcalera of Los Angeles by then-Mayor Eric Garcetti for her role in bringing Oaxacan spirits to a wider American audience, according to Hoodline. The physical design, by DesignAgency, split the room into a front lounge and a rear taverna area with gaming tables and a stage for live performances.
What MGM Resorts has said, and what it hasn't
MGM Resorts confirmed the closure through a spokesperson quoted across several outlets: an exciting new concept will debut in the space during the first half of 2027, with additional details to be shared in the coming months. Beyond that line, the company has not explained why the bar is closing. The Las Vegas Review-Journal's Neon section reported that although the closure was announced Thursday, the bar appeared to have already been shuttered for several months, an observation consistent with visitor reports earlier in 2026 that the venue's public listing showed no operating days.
The announcement lands amid a broader reshuffling of Park MGM's nightlife and hospitality footprint. In December 2025, MGM Resorts rebranded the property's NoMad Las Vegas hotel as The Reserve at Park MGM, renaming the NoMad Bar as The Reserve Bar as part of a transition that brought the hotel into Marriott's Autograph Collection in early 2026. Park MGM says guests can still visit other on property venues during the transition, including On the Record, Juniper Cocktail Lounge, BetMGM Sportsbook & Bar, The Reserve Bar and the High Limit Lounge.
What this means
What replaces Mama Rabbit, and whether any successor concept keeps an agave focused bottle list at that scale, is not yet known and MGM has not said. The closure removes one of the few Strip venues built specifically around tequila and mezcal breadth rather than cocktail programming, and its 500 plus label list included pours from houses such as Fortaleza and Siete Leguas that regularly appear in this publication's own scoring database. Whatever opens in 2027 will be judged on its own bottle list, not on what came before it.
