The Luminaire, a UK based luxury travel company, has introduced a six day private itinerary called the Mezcal Safari that moves clients from the blue agave fields of Jalisco to the small batch mezcal distilleries of Oaxaca, according to travel outlet Uncrate.
The trip is one of a growing slate of expert led, high budget itineraries the company has built since its 2022 launch, and it is built around a single premise: letting paying guests follow one plant, agave, through two distinct spirit categories and two distinct regions of Mexico in a single week.
What the itinerary actually covers
According to Uncrate's account of the package, the trip opens with a private tequila tasting and live music in Mexico City before the group moves to Guadalajara. From there, guests tour the agave growing region local operators call Agave Valley by helicopter and by train, and gain access to what the outlet described as some of Mexico's most iconic tequila distilleries, including a stop at José Cuervo's Fábrica La Rojeña. The itinerary then shifts south to Oaxaca, where guests take part in a cooking class with chef Rodolfo Castellanos and a temazcal ceremony described as guided by a healer, before touring agave fields and cellars at a mezcal producer for a guided tasting and food pairing. The trip closes with a mixology class held on a rooftop overlooking the Santo Domingo de Guzmán area of Oaxaca city. Uncrate reported that The Luminaire recommends the trip be taken between November and April, and that a dedicated travel designer works with each client to adjust the schedule to their group's interests.
Who runs The Luminaire
The Luminaire was founded in 2022 by chief executive Adam Sebba and co-founder Nicholas Priest, who previously led marketing at One&Only and Aman Resorts, according to trade coverage of the company's launch from Forbes and Elite Traveler at the time. The company has described its model as pairing wealthy clients with named experts in a given field, from explorers to art historians to, in this case, agave and spirits specialists, rather than operating as a conventional tour packager. It has also built a partnership with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, offering guests of that hotel chain a set of branded itineraries, and it has run trips built around figures such as explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes and photographers from the Magnum agency, per earlier reporting from Globetrender and Aspire Travel Club.
What has not been published
Neither Uncrate's account nor other coverage located for this story includes a per person price for the Mezcal Safari, a start date for bookings, or a minimum group size. The company's own past marketing material, cited by TechRound and Elite Traveler, describes its pricing and booking process as handled directly through individual travel designers rather than published rate cards, which is consistent with the absence of a public price for this itinerary. It is also not established from available reporting which specific tequila houses beyond José Cuervo's La Rojeña, or which Oaxaca palenque, are fixed stops versus options a travel designer might swap depending on the client.
