Stateside Brands, the Philadelphia company behind Surfside Iced Tea + Vodka and Super Lyte, will launch a tequila based ready to drink cocktail called Playa Vida in 2027, according to the trade outlets Brewbound and BevNET.
The move marks the company's first tequila based product after nearly a decade built entirely on its own vodka, following Surfside's 2022 debut and Super Lyte's 2026 rollout. Beyond the name and the target year, the two outlets have published no further detail: no confirmed flavors, no stated alcohol by volume, no distribution timeline and no named tequila supplier.
What Stateside has confirmed about Playa Vida
Brewbound and BevNET, trade publications owned by the same parent company, each reported the same single line: that the team behind Surfside and Super Lyte is adding a tequila based RTD cocktail to its portfolio next year, under the name Playa Vida. Neither outlet's coverage included pricing, can size, flavor names, a launch market list or an on the record quote from Stateside leadership, a contrast with how the company introduced Super Lyte, which came paired with an interview the company's CEO gave to Forbes.
How Stateside Brands built its RTD business
Stateside Brands was founded in 2016 in Philadelphia by two sets of brothers, Matt and Bryan Quigley and Clement and Zach Pappas, built around a craft vodka pot distilled seven times from American grown corn. The company's first major RTD expansion, Surfside Iced Tea + Vodka, launched in 2022 and went on to become, by the company's own account, the fastest growing alcohol brand of 2024, with dollar sales up 360 percent year over year at scanned retail in the United States, per a company announcement distributed over PRNewswire.
Stateside followed with Super Lyte in 2026, a vodka based RTD built on classic sports drink flavors rather than tea or lemonade. Clement Pappas, CEO and co-founder of Stateside Brands, told Forbes the flavors were chosen because "these are widely popular, accepted, classic flavors that are familiar to everyone and easy to drink." Brewbound later reported that Super Lyte was on pace to quadruple the first year sales of the previous top selling spirits based RTD launch.
That growth has not gone unchallenged. Stateside and Anheuser-Busch agreed to dismiss a lawsuit over Surfside and a similarly positioned entrant called Skimmers, according to Brewbound, a sign of how contested the spiked tea and lemonade segment had become before Stateside chose to expand into tequila rather than defend share in its original category alone.
A crowded shelf for tequila based cans
Playa Vida would enter a ready to drink field where tequila and mezcal brought in 6.7 billion dollars in United States revenue in 2024, up 2.9 percent, even as vodka held a larger 7.2 billion dollar share flat, according to IWSR data cited by CB Insights. Casamigos launched a four flavor, 10 percent ABV canned margarita line in June 2025, each 200 milliliter can carrying tequila, triple sec and real juice. Dogfish Head Cocktails added a 12 percent ABV Strawberry Lime Tequila Margarita to its lineup in 2024. High Noon, the top selling canned cocktail brand by volume, moved into tequila based seltzers in flavors including lime, grapefruit, passionfruit and strawberry, with Gallo's spirits general manager framing tequila as a natural extension of the brand's seltzer base.
What this means
What stands out is how little Stateside has said publicly compared with its past launches: no flavor names, no proof point, no disclosed agave source. Until the company or its distributors release those specifics, there is nothing yet to weigh Playa Vida against, and nothing in this report should be read as a claim about what will be in the can.
