Teremana Tequila, the brand Dwayne Johnson co-founded in March 2020, sold more than one million nine-litre cases in the United States in 2023 and is set to enter more than 20 new countries over the coming year, distribution partner Mast-Jägermeister SE said in October 2025.

The tequila is made exclusively at Destilería Teremana de Agave, a distillery built for the brand in Jesús María, in the Jalisco highlands, and registered under NOM 1613, the four-digit code the Consejo Regulador del Tequila assigns to an authorized producer. Johnson founded the company with Dany Garcia, Jenna Fagnan and Ken Austin, who had previously built Tequila Avión before its sale to Pernod Ricard in 2018, according to The Spirits Business.

How Teremana reached one million cases

Teremana sold roughly 300,000 nine-litre cases in its first twelve months, a launch window that fell in the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic, The Spirits Business reported. By the end of 2021 that volume had grown to nearly 900,000 cases, according to Park Street Imports. In April 2023 the brand said it had surpassed one million nine-litre cases sold over the preceding year, a pace it described as the fastest climb to that mark by a premium spirits brand in the US. The Spirits Business's Brand Champions 2024 report put Teremana's US volume at 0.9 million cases in 2022, rising 17.7 percent to 1.0 million in 2023. The Drinks Business reported in October 2025 that Teremana had outsold Casamigos, the tequila co-founded by George Clooney, by 830,000 cases that year.

Who owns Teremana and who distills it

Teremana is produced and marketed by Siete Bucks Spirits LLC, the company Johnson chairs alongside co-founder Dany Garcia, with Fagnan and Austin as additional co-founders, according to Mast-Jägermeister's own company materials. The Lopez family, described by the brand as third-generation agave growers and second-generation distillers in Jalisco, became co-owners when they agreed to build a dedicated distillery for Teremana on their family's land, The Spirits Business reported. Mast-Jägermeister served as Teremana's exclusive global distributor from before the March 2020 launch, taking the brand into Canada in March 2021, then converted that relationship into an equity stake in February 2022. Neither company disclosed the size of the stake or what Mast-Jägermeister paid, Shanken News Daily reported at the time. Richard Black, a former Campari and Westward Whiskey executive, joined as Teremana's chief executive in late 2022 to lead the international push.

What a federal lawsuit alleges about Teremana's labeling

A proposed class action, Tomescu v. Siete Bucks Spirits LLC, was filed on April 3, 2026 in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. According to the complaint, plaintiff Andrei Tomescu alleges Teremana's marketing as '100% agave,' 'handcrafted' and 'small batch' is false and that the designations led consumers to pay a price premium, Top Class Actions reported. The complaint states that Siete Bucks Spirits sold at least 20 million bottles of Teremana nationally during the class period, including at least 500,000 in Illinois. In a statement posted to its own website, Siete Bucks Spirits said it has filed a motion to dismiss the suit, and said the Consejo Regulador del Tequila has, through its own monitoring of Teremana's production, verified the brand's use of a '100% Blue Weber Agave' designation. The company said it stands behind its use of the terms 'handcrafted' and 'small batch' to describe its production methods. The allegations are contested and no court has ruled on the merits.

Where Teremana is expanding next

Teremana entered global travel retail in 2023 through a partnership with DFS Group, its first step outside North America, TRBusiness reported. It followed in 2024 with launches in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and Colombia, alongside a distillery expansion that Mast-Jägermeister said roughly doubled production capacity, with a visitor center attached to the new site due in March 2025. In October 2025 the company said Teremana would add more than 20 further domestic markets over the following year, including Brazil, Spain, France, South Africa, Japan and Indonesia, continuing its 'Share the Mana' retail campaign in airports that has run from Heathrow to Sydney. Johnson described the brand's ambitions as extending well beyond tequila from the outset, according to Mast-Jägermeister, while the distributor's chief executive Michael Volke credited the growth to the partnership between Johnson, the Lopez family and the distributor.

What this means

Teremana's case volumes and its Mast-Jägermeister stake put it among the few celebrity-founded tequilas that have become genuine volume players rather than novelty lines. The open question is how the Illinois lawsuit over its composition and production claims resolves, since Siete Bucks Spirits has pointed to CRT monitoring rather than to an independent, published analysis of its own. Teremana is a house this desk tracks, though neither of its expressions currently carries a published TW Score.
